|A nurse asked me if I was suicidal ... I jokingly said " might as well be." Co's with black leather gloves descend and drag me off to the psych ward for 24 hr suicide watch. I wear a yellow paper gown, (chicken suit) nothing else, no slippers, I sleep on a steel bed, no mattress, no blanket and I am watched by a camera in the corner of the cell. The moral of the story is , don't joke in jail. — at In Hell|
' I did these drawings during a brief sojourn as a guest in a N.J. correctional facility in the summer of 2012. They were done with ink fillers ( no casing to prevent the stabbing of inmates )
on the blank side of med info sheets. The audience was quite captivating and very arresting. The writing which I call insomnia rants are done in the wee hours of the morning.
They are improvised from memory, images and dreams. '|
A TRACE OF YOU
by MM Chen
Steam rises from a copper kettlestirring on a stovevapor dissolves into air
Spring is approaching soon a flower will be released from bud adorning a fragile stem
A window is lifted opena gentle breeze sways a curtain then it is still
In your silence you are frozen you keep the weeping within you
whisper in a murmur that is soft on ear
I want to reach out and comfort you embrace you ... bring you near but
you are fading in afternoon light
There is only a trace of you - at Light and Fade.
